Quick answer

Yes, it is free: no ticket, you tip the guide at the end. Marrakech Free Walking Tour meets at Jemaa el-Fna Square, lasts about 3h and is guided in French and English; rated 7.0/10 from 14 reviews on Civitatis.

Start times vary by date and are confirmed when you book.

The walk begins on Jemaa el-Fna with a short introduction to the Alaouite dynasty that still rules Morocco, then heads into the medina via Dar Tam-Tam, a 19th-century house once owned by a minister of justice. From there the route crosses the old souk and the carpet market and goes through the craft quarters where slipper makers, lamp makers and leatherworkers still work in open fronted shops.

Halfway through, the group stops at a herbalist's shop, similar to a traditional Berber apothecary, for mint tea. The second half passes the Almoravid Koubba, the Marrakech Museum and the Ben Youssef Madrasa, then the mausoleum of Moulay al-Ksour, before the narrow Passage of the Seven Streets leads back to Jemaa el-Fna. Tickets to the madrasa and the museum are not included.
