Ghosts, Ghouls & Murder Free Tour

The tour meets at Cleopatra's Needle, a 3,500-year-old Egyptian obelisk that reached the Victoria Embankment in 1878 sealed inside an iron cylinder that nearly sank in a storm off the Bay of Biscay — six sailors died getting it here, and a Victorian time capsule still lies buried beneath it. The bronze sphinxes flanking the needle still carry shrapnel scars from a German air raid in 1917, an early sign that this stretch of the Thames has seen its share of violence.

From there, your guide follows the Embankment into London's unsolved and unsettled past: the actor's murder that still haunts the Adelphi Theatre, the unidentified remains that turned up near Scotland Yard during the so-called Whitehall Mystery, and the older ghost stories that cling to Somerset House and the alleys around the Strand.
