Before 1939, Warsaw was home to Europe's largest Jewish community outside New York — some 350,000 people, nearly a third of the city. This walk traces what the Nazi occupation did to that world: the walls that sealed off the Warsaw Ghetto, the Umschlagplatz where hundreds of thousands were deported to Treblinka, and the 1943 Ghetto Uprising that briefly held off the German army with almost no weapons at all.
